efus A9X – The latest efus module with new Freescale ARM Cortex-A9 CPU

At the beginning of 2014, F&S Elektronik Systeme introduced its new form factor efus (easy – functional – universal – small) using the i.MX6 Solo, Dual and Quad Core processor.

In contrary to the Qseven standard, which uses the same goldfinger connector, efus was designed consequently for ARM processors. It also allows a base board with four layers only. Now we add a  new module in this successful and compact (47x62mm) form factor. For the new module, we will use a new i.MX 6 CPU by Freescale, the so called SoloX version.

The CPU of efusA9X offers many acceleration functions for fast picture response, enabling animations and video playback.

efusA9X is compatible to efusA9 and offers up to 1 GByte RAM, 1 GByte SLC NAND Flash and 32 GByte eMMC Flash. Available interfaces are 2x Gigabit-Ethernet, 2x USB Host/Device, 2x CAN, 2x I2C, 2x SPI, 4x UART, GPIOs, 2x SD-Card, I2S or AC97 for Audio, PCIe, as well as analog and digital camera.
Displays can be connected via digital RGB and LVDS (up to WXGA). A resistive as well as a capacitive touch controller can be connected via the I2C interface. A WLAN/BT module with chip antenna or antenna socket can be placed optionally.

SoloX is the second processor in Freescale’s portfolio which supports Asymmetric Multiprocessing. Both cores (A9+M4) are connected to the internal bus fabric and have the possibility to access all peripherals. In addition to Vybrid, SoloX comes with Resource Domain Controller which makes it easier to protect memory or other peripherals from each other. Compared to other i.MX 6 application processors, SoloX offers much more bandwidth on the two GBit LAN interfaces.

Power supply is 5V, the power consumption is typical 2W makes it easy to cool the module.

For the OS: Linux (Yocto), WEC2013 as well as WEC7 are offered for efusA9X where Android is in preparation.

Another characteristic is the long-time availability to at least 2025.
